Mission, aims and functions

The Collaborating Centre aims to increase the integration and effectiveness of EHIA and HIA across the Asia Pacific Region through collaboration with the WHO (especially the Thematic Working Group on HIA), government, industry and the community. Some of the key priority interest areas of the Centre include air quality, climate change, environmental health country profiles and the promotion of integration of HIA into EIA.

The Centre collaborates on and develops research and projects relevant to EHIA and HIA with other stakeholders in the Asia Pacific Region, including the planning, investigation, evaluation of data and dissemination of results. The Collaboration Centre provides opportunities for developers and decision makers in government agencies or private organisations to obtain valuable and relevant assistance to undertake Environmental Health Impact Assessments for new or changes to existing development, policies and/or plans. The Centre also provides opportunities for training and education in the various aspects of EHIA/HIA, including specific courses, Fellowship Programs and other initiatives to contribute to capacity building in EHIA/HIA in the Western Pacific Region and beyond.
